Seattle attorney Kathy George, a longtime member of the WashCOG board and five-year member of the Washington state Sunshine Committee, resigned after its Feb. 28 meeting, tired of “spinning our wheels.”

The committee members are appointed by the governor and charged with reviewing the existing exemptions to the state Public Records Act as well as current legislation, and make recommendations to the Legislature to repeal or amend those exemptions. The 13-member committee was formed in 2007 to provide oversight to legislative action affecting Washington’s transparency laws.

George told her story to several media outlets.
